Despite a decidedly poor year for hedge fund managers the world over in 2014, some 45 billionaires globally owe their fortunes to heading such an investment vehicle. Indeed, though hedge fund performance during the year was less than stellar, most of the world’s hedge fund billionaires became decidedly richer. George Soros remains the most affluent of these elite managers, with an estimated net worth of $24.2 billion. His family office, Soros Fund Management, returned approximately 8% in 2014. This is far above the average hedge fund return last year, evaluated at 3.3% according to Hedge Fund Research (HFR).
