Finance minister Harris Georgiades and representatives of Charlie Airlines, the Cyprus-based subsidiary of Russia’s S7 airline, will sing on Friday July 8an agreement that will allow the airline to use the brand name and logo of defunct Cyprus Airways, the finance ministry said, according to the Cyprus Business Mail.
Charlie Airlines emerged as the winning bidder in a competition carried out by the finance ministry’s privatisation unit, the ministry said in an emailed statement on July 8. The agreement will be signed at the finance ministry at 10 a.m. on Friday.
The government bought the Cyprus Airways brand name, logos and trademark in December 2014, a month before the company ran out of cash and suspended its operations, for a total of €1.2m.
Transport minister Marios Demetriades said on state radio CyBC on radio that Charlie Airlines has filed an application for a domestic air operator certificate.
