Education Minister And Chinese Ambassador Discuss Enhancement Of Bilateral Relations

Minister of Education Prodromos Prodromou and Chinese Ambassador Liu Yantao held a meeting on Thursday reaffirming their mutual wish to further enhance bilateral relations.

 

According to a press release, Prodromou briefed the Chinese Ambassador on the educational priorities of the new school year and expressed the willingness of the Ministry to enhance cooperation especially in the fields of technology, youth, culture and higher education. He also briefed him on the 9th UNECE Ministerial Meeting on Education, Sustainable Development, Circular Economy and Sustainable Tourism that will take place in Cyprus 5-7 October 2021. Prodromou also stressed the importance of China`s principled positions on the Cyprus issue and conveyed the government of Cyprus` gratitude.

 

Liu Yantao thanked the Minister for the close cooperation on all levels, emphasising his participation in the closing event of the "Seeds for the Future" programme and informed him about events the Embassy is planning to hold in the framework of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and China.

 

The Ambassador referred to the recent efforts to establish cultural centers in both countries and more specifically the establishment of a Chinese Cultural Center in Nicosia. The Minister said that the Ministry is ready to offer any assistance and support towards this goal.

 

They also discussed about the forthcoming Winter Olympic Games in China and the "Seeds for the Future" education programme, organised by Huawei for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The meeting was also attended by Huawei Cyprus General Manager Wu Hao, who expressed his company`s intention to further develop the programme through scholarships and employment of graduates of Cypriot universities.
