Vassilios Demetriades, Shipping Deputy Minister to Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, is in Lisbon to attend the UN Ocean Conference.
A press release from the Deputy Ministry said the Ocean Conference, is co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal.
It comes at a critical time as the world is seeking to address the many of the deep-rooted problems of societies laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic and which will require major structural transformations and common shared solutions that are anchored in the Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, the conference’s official website said.
To mobilise action, the Conference will seek to propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.
On the sidelines of the conference, Demetriades will have meetings with his counterparts from other countries on issues pertaining to maritime transport and blue economy.
He returns home on Thursday, 30 June.
