Snapbox Holdings Joins Green Cyprus at Tree Planting Event

Snapbox Holdings Joins Green Cyprus at Tree Planting Event

Aiming at contributing to the regeneration of the Petra tou Romiou area and raising awareness on the importance of tree planting, Snapbox Holdings and Mintha Holding Limited (members of Steelnet Group) joined Green Cyprus in an event that took place on Saturday, 24 March 2018.

Pistachio bushes, cypresses, carob trees and wild olives were planted in an effort to further beautify the area and create a sustainable ecosystem for future generations. The company also donated for the planting and caring for the trees in the area while members of its staff wholeheartedly embraced the initiative and attended the event with their families.

In statements, Andrei Fokin, Managing Director of Steelnet Group and Snapbox Holdings referred to the important role of forests and trees in sustainable development: “We are particularly proud to participate in today’s event and to join Green Cyprus in its efforts to plant trees in Petra tou Romiou. At Snapbox Holdings, we place high priority on the protection of the environment while focusing on actions that have a positive impact on the local community.”

Fokin highlighted that social responsibility is fundamental to his company’s philosophy and an integral part of its corporate culture. “Our interest in the environment is deep-rooted. One of our main business partners is Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), which annually invests significant funds to reduce industry’s impact on the environment.  Among MMK’s strategic goals is to allocate more than €500 million in actions that strengthen the environment, by 2025. This culture is now reflected in Cyprus where we’ll strive to meet the high standards set by the Russian company.”

MMK is one of Russia’s leading steel producers. Its environmental achievements, which have been repeatedly internationally praised, were highlighted in a photo exhibition organized by the company in Nicosia last summer. The exhibition was visited by several hundred people, including Cypriot government officials. Well-known Russian entrepreneur Viktor Rashnikov, who has headed MMK since 1997, has carried out a large-scale technological modernization of the company, radically reducing environmental impact.

Celebrating 16 years of dynamic presence in the Cypriot market, Steelnet Group, provides a wide range of financial services via its companies as well as other investment entities operating in various sectors. In the context of its strategic goals, the Group will continue supporting such initiatives, setting as an embodiment of financial success and strict adherence to the principles of corporate social responsibility.

It is worth noting that this is the fifth mass tree planting held at Petra tou Romiou by Green Cyprus, a non-profit organization, whose reforestation project on the island is supported by the Forestry Department.
