Investments Funds: What Is ESG Investing?

Investments Funds: What Is ESG Investing?

The International Funds Summit returns for the 8th time on 7-8 November 2022 at Hilton Nicosia, Cyprus, proudly presented by Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA), Invest Cyprus and IMH.

This year’s Summit, which brings together more than 500 leading specialists from across the globe, will examine the evolving regulatory and competitive landscape in the international asset management sector. With a long history of hosting distinguished speakers from all over the world, this Summit has become the premier peer-to-peer event for investment fund professionals. The audience will have the chance to hear from more than 35 leading experts and engage in stimulating conversations during the Q&A sessions and the many networking activities.

One of this year’s sessions, ‘The Impact Investing and Sustainability Stage’, will look into impact investing and sustainability, explore how investors are shifting into more impactful, ethical, socially and environmentally responsible choices, and describe how the shift is changing the industry. It will measure the impact of sustainable funds and investing towards net-zero, as well as how companies are innovating with sustainable priorities.

Among the speakers joining the session are Cara Williams, Global ESG Strategy Leader of Mercer; Suresh Mistry, Co-Founder and head of ESG and Impact Reporting at Alquity Investment Management Ltd; Hans van Houwelingen, Managing Director at Urban Impact Ventures; Dr, Greg Davies, an Applied Behavioural Finance specialist at Oxford Risk; Isobel Edwards, a Green Bond Analyst at NN Investment Partners; Alexander Stevens, CEO of Greenomy; Dimitrios Batzis, Head of Greece, Cyprus and Malta at Schroders; and Anthony J. Harper, Head of Sustainable Finance, ETFs and Asset Managers at Euroclear. The session will be moderated by Michalis G. Vasiliou, Board Member and Head of Asset Management Services at KPMG in Cyprus.

Cara Williams will share insights into the change in the investment world with regard to ESG. Her presentation will cover the many different meanings of ESG to people and the critical factors of ESG Investing for impactful change.

Suresh Mistry will explain how reimagining investment management delivers three-dimentional returns and describe how the investment industry’s ability to transform can solve the planet’s critical challenges whilst delivering returns that exceed expectations.

Hans van Houwelingen will make the point that progress towards Net Zero intersects with ESG, requires solutions that have a real-world impact, and talk about the decomposition of Net Zero targets in specific geographies and industries.

Dr. Greg Davies will review insights from extensive behavioural research into sector preferences for ESG and sustainable investing, and explain how unlocking latent demand for sustainable assets and meeting investors’ needs lie in understanding those preferences.

Isobel Edwards’ presentation will take us through the key technical challenges of EU Taxonomy commitments that some ESG and impact investors will have to meet at the end of this year and offer practical solutions.

Alexander Stevens will focus on the ESG data challenge that asset managers and distributions face and provide solutions which can ease the EU Taxonomy-related reporting process, asses a security’s ESG credentials and promote sustainable finance.

Dimitrios Batzis will explain that natural capital is pivotal to net zero. He will describe that treating nature as an asset is no longer seen an oddity, as the resulting financial and non-financial risks of climate change and biodiversity loss will effect industries and sectors.

Anthony J. Harper will discuss how investors are expanding the scope of the ESG marketplace, scaling up sustainable finance, and providing solutions for taxonomy alignment reporting, sustainability data science and ESG metrics.

The Summit will be conducted in English and full participation at the Summit corresponds to up to 8 CPD units. For more information regarding the event, click here.

The Summit is addressed to senior finance, investment professionals and asset managers in Cyprus, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the USA, who work in Investment Fund companies, Asset Management companies, Accounting, Audit and Tax Advisory firms, Investment Banks and other financial institutions, Private Equity firms, Venture Capital firms, Family Offices, Insurance companies, Pension Funds, Endowment Trusts and Sovereign Wealth Funds.
