Cyber Threats and Data Protection: The Complexities of a New Reality

BDO is organizing the Information Security & Data Privacy Conference on Wednesday, 15 September 2021, 08:30-13:00 at the Hilton Nicosia.

In the last few years, cyber threats have risen exponentially, forcing organizations to find ways to adapt and protect themselves and their clientele. The COVID-19 pandemic, the numerous lockdowns and the sudden increase in work-from-home personnel, have pushed organizations to adopt a digital working environment, without having the appropriate security systems in place.

The conference aims to help organizations navigate the complexities of this new reality, with distinguished speakers from Cyprus and abroad discussing security and privacy issues.

Amongst the featured speakers is Dr Alexis Michael, Head of Technology Risk Advisory at BDO, who will dive into the “unvarying dilemma” of security vs privacy and which is more important to organizations, while Panos Panayiotou, Manager Information Security at Bank of Cyprus will discuss the reality of cyberattacks and the internal cybersecurity happenings in a financial institution.

Phil Ruelle, Chief Digital Officer at BDO, will introduce a number of exciting and innovative new technologies that are poised to revolutionize the way we interact with services and have a major impact on data privacy for both providers and users, and Dr Yianna Danidou, Lecturer in Cybersecurity, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Director, CYBER.EUC Cybersecurity Competence Center Research Associate, CERIDES, European University Cyprus will analyze the shortfall in the number of trained cybersecurity professionals available in relation to the current demand, something that is widely recognized by organizations, institutions, and governments.

More Featured Speakers include:

  • Karlos Zangoulos, Managing Partner, BDO
  • Andreas Iacovou, Team Coordinator, Incident Management Supervisor, National CSIRT-CY
  • Constantinos Tsiourtos, Managing Director, C.T. KINEAS LLC, Public Policy & Legal Advisor, Cybersecurity, Privacy & AI Standardization Expert, C.T. KINEAS LLC & CEN CENELEC (European Standardization Organizations)
  • Damon Greber, Director Advisory Services, BDO
