In a groundbreaking conference “Knowledge, Strength, Hope”, Europa Donna Cyprus will present and discuss the findings of a research study on “The experiences of Cypriot women with Metastatic Breast Cancer”.

Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) is the rarely discussed and according to international research findings, women diagnosed with MBC have different needs and face different challenges than women diagnosed with Primary Breast Cancer.

The Conference will be held on Thursday, September 19, at 17:30, at the Hilton Park hotel in Nicosia.

Mrs Stella Kyriakidou, Chairwoman of Europa Donna Cyprus, will open the event, while Dr Christina Yiannaki, Permanent Secretary of the Health Ministry, will also address the Conference.

The latest medical advances and treatment methods will be presented by Dr Olivia Pagani (Breast Unit of Southern Switzerland, the Institute of Oncology of Southern Switzerland (IOSI), the International Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG), the Swiss Group for Cancer Research (SAKK), and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva).

The research findings, which portray the needs of Cypriot women facing Metastatic Breast Cancer, will be presented by Dr Stephanie Christodoulidou, Psychologist at Europa Donna Cyprus. Clinical Psychologist Mr Achilleas Koukkides will deliver a speech on “Does Metastasis mean a Doomed Life, or the Discovery of New Paths?”

This research was funded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) as part of the SPARC Programme (Award) for Metastatic Breast Cancer, which was inaugurated in 2015 and is implemented in collaboration with Pfizer Oncology.

The study was designed and conducted by Europa Donna Cyprus in collaboration with the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, and the University of Nicosia.
