STEP CYPRUS Announces the Appointment of New Board Members

Following the STEP Cyprus Branch Annual General Meeting held on the 21st December 2020, the new members of the Board of Directors were elected and announced.

 

The newly appointed Members of the Board are:

President: Stella Kammitsi

Deputy President: Peter Economides

Secretary:  Evi Papacleovoulou

Treasurer: Elena Papandreou

Continuing Education: Eleni Drakou

Events & PR: Nicky Xenofontos

Member: Kyriacos Xenophontos

Member: Panicos Loizou

 

Quoting the President of the Board, “the newly elected Board comprises of highly regarded professional individuals with years of experience in the legal, estate planning, trust and succession profession. I am confident that their knowledge, enthusiasm for work and experience will elevate the Branch and the professional community. I give my heartfelt congratulations to all the members and wish you all a successful and productive tenure!

 

With the input from the Board, we endeavour to participate and influence policy making locally and providing suggestions for the upgrading of the Cypriot legislative framework on, inter alia, trusts, estate planning and succession through hard work and dedication, we can keep Cyprus as a highly attractive international business centre”.

 

Members’ Short Biographies 

Stella Kammitsi studied law in England where she obtained her Law Degree from the University of Leicester in 1991 and then she continued her studies in the United States and obtained her LLM in International Banking Law from the Boston University in 1992. Her main area of expertise is corporate, commercial, and banking law with special focus on advising on international wealth management and planning as well on international tax structuring. 

 

Peter G. Economides. Peter is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant. He has many years of experience in international tax planning and trusts and has practiced both in Cyprus and the UK.  Peter contributes articles regularly in the international professional press and lectures on international tax planning and trusts. He is a member of the International Tax Planning Association, served as a Council member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners in London, and is the Founder of STEP Cyprus. Peter is the Honorary Consul of Cape Verde in Cyprus.

 

Evi Papacleovoulou Evi obtained her bachelor’s degree, after receiving her Letters of Law (LLB) with Honors from King’s Collage, University of London in 2003 and then she continued her studies with the same university and obtained a Master of Letters of Law (LLM) in European Union Law and Taxation with merit in 2004. She was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2005 and has served in various committees of the Cyprus Bar Association ever since she jointed and is a practicing litigation advocate. Evi is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators. 

 

Elena Papandreou obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from Leicester University. She was admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 1994 and she has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners since 2008. She is also a member of the International Bar Association. Elena Papandreou established E. Papandreou & Co. LLC at the beginning of 2009, acting as the Managing Director while continuing as a Director of Dema Services Limited.

 

Eleni Drakou specialises in immovable property law and assists international and local clients with their real estate matters in Cyprus. She focuses on property purchase and conveyancing of new and resale properties. She often represents clients in real estate agreements, transactions and joint ventures for the sale, rental and construction of residential and commercial properties. 

 

Nicky Xenofontos graduated from the University of Leicester with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) and obtained a Master of Laws in European Union Law (LL.M Hons) from the same university. She is a licenced insolvency practitioner and an accredited Trust & Estates Practitioner (TEP), an accredited Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer, certified and licenced by the Cyprus Securities & Exchange Commission. She has recently been appointed to serve as a member of the Companies & Tax Structuring Committee and the Intellectual Property Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association and is a Board member of STEP Cyprus. 

 

Kyriacos Xenophontos has extensive experience in corporate and commercial law, private client advisory work, banking and finance and corporate finance. He graduated in Law and Criminology (Dual Honors), Keele University, UK, 2000 and obtained his LLM Financial and Banking Law, Kings College London 2001. He is an accredited Trust & Estates Practitioner (TEP) a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA) and a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (MCSI). Kyriacos also serves on the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cyprus (AmCham). 

 

Panicos Loizou graduated from the University of Salford having read Economics and was awarded the University Prize in Economics.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member the Institute of Taxation of the UK.  He has more than 40 years of experience in auditing and taxation and is a member of the Board of STEP Cyprus. Panicos contributes articles regularly in the International press and presents lectures on taxation matters.
