PwC Cyprus Supports Local Community and Entrepreneurship

PwC Cyprus Supports Local Community and Entrepreneurship

Through a series of social activities, PwC Cyprus and its people, actively demonstrate, for another year, their interest and compassion towards the local community. PwC’s Corporate Responsibility programme makes use of the organisation’s resources and its peoples’ skills, time and willingness to volunteer to bring a positive change in society.

Fostering entrepreneurship

PwC Cyprus is a proud supporter of organisations and institutions whose goal is to promote entrepreneurship, especially among young people. As a strategic partner of Chrysalis LEAP for a fourth consecutive year, the organisation actively supported the cleantech business ideas competition ClimateLaunchpad, with PwC’s staff voluntarily providing guidance to the teams that took part in the competition.

Furthermore, in the framework of its long-term partnership with Junior Achievement, PwC supported the school competition “Business of the Year”, throughout its implementation as well as through its staff’s voluntary action and provision of substantial assistance to the participating teams.

The organisation was also a supporter of the 1st Business Ethos Awards which were co-organised by Transparency International – Cyprus and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), aiming to promote, acknowledge and reward the efforts of Cyprus-based businesses and organisations to combat corruption and enhance integrity and transparency.

PwC is also a significant supporter of the “Research Centre on Interactive Media Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies (RISE)”, which aims to promote research and innovation and is temporarily housed in offices provided by the organisation, in PwC’s building in the centre of Nicosia. The Centre is a partnership of the Nicosia Municipality, the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the University College London in the UK, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology and the Open University of Cyprus.

Social action

For the 17th consecutive year, PwC organised its annual blood donation at its offices in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos to support the central Blood Bank. The Minister of Health, Mr Constantinos Ioannou supported the initiative by attending the blood donation organised in Nicosia.  Moreover, for the fifth year in a row, PwC donated a sum it intended to spend on Christmas cards to the “Mana” Kindergarten, while it also organised a campaign for the collection of essential items, which were delivered to the charity foundation “Alkyonides”, in order to support families in need.

Additionally, on their own initiative, PwC members of staff supported Movember and Europa Uomo Cyprus’ awareness campaign for prostate cancer. Throughout the year, the company supported through donations, events and other volunteering initiatives, a number of charity organisations and associations, such as the Radiomarathon, the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society, the Red Cross, the Karaiskakio Foundation, PASYKAF, the Miracle Babies association etc.

The organisation’s total contribution

It should be noted that during 2018, PwC Cyprus proceeded, for a second time, to record its total footprint, with the aim of assessing all of its actions, while at the same time reviewing its wider impact on the economy, society as well as the environment. The organisation’s total footprint for 2018 is estimated at €166.8m, recording a €4m increase compared with 2015.

Commenting on the initiatives of the organisation, CEO Evgenios Evgeniou stated "Our principles and values are what characterise us as people and as an organisation. We are next to our people and the society in which we operate working with responsibility and transparency towards our commitment for a better tomorrow.  We care and participate in actions aimed at strengthening the social fabric".
