KPMG Cyprus: Key Partner in “Scishops”Project

KPMG Cyprus: Key Partner in “Scishops”Project

KPMG Limited participates in SciShops, a Horizon 2020 project as part of a pan European consortium comprising Universities, SMEs, NGOs and Research Centers. SciShops aims at expanding and further building on the capacity of the science shops ecosystem in Europe and beyond.

During the SciShops project timeframe, at least ten new university- and non-university-based science shops will be established in Europe. Subsequently a series of solutions will be developed within the project: the SciShops Knowledge Exchange Roadmap, the SciShops Strategy for Community-Based Participatory Research and Science Shops Further Development, SciShops Guide for Establishment and Running of a Science Shop or the SciShops Web platform with its novel twining, matchmaking and awareness features. Through the use of the platform, organizations willing to establish a science shop will be able to find a research organization which can support them with research services or they can be twinned with an experienced similar science shop which will help with the establishment and development of the new one.

The project is led by SYNYO GmbH, an Austrian Research Consultancy. KPMG will be involved in all aspects of the project while it will be the Work Package 7 Leader which entails the establishment of the new science shops. At the same time, KPMG will be responsible for the overall project risk management, by identifying and mitigating potential risks, ensuring high quality delivery of the project. Finally, KPMG will have active involvement in the dissemination and communication of the project.

The project commenced on 1st September 2017 and the kick-off meeting was held between the 11th and 13th of September in Vienna with the participation of all partners. The project is expected to run for 30 months and has a budget of €2.935.887,50.

KPMG Limited Board Member, in charge of this project, Antonis A. Bargilly* stated that the involvement of KPMG in this project is very important to facilitate the establishment of the science shops and to create the necessary synergies between the business and the academic communities. In this way, the appropriate conditions for tackling challenging research questions will be within reach for a larger population of entities and might pave the way for more innovative approaches in doing business.

*Antonis A. Bargilly heads the Strategy, Customer & Operations Services of Management Consulting Department of KPMG Limited.
