Youssef Nasr to be Appointed as the New Chairman of HB

Hellenic Bank Public Company has announced that the Board of Directors, during its meeting held on 6 November 2017, decided to appoint Youssef Nasr as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank. The appointment is subject to approval by the European Central Bank and will take effect when a Board position becomes available. 

Following approval from the ECB and appointment to the Board of Directors of the Bank, Nasr will be proposed for the position of the Chairman of the Bank.

Youssef Nasr is a US citizen born on 21 September 1954 in Lebanon. He studied at Cambridge University, UK where he obtained a BA and an MA in Mathematics and at Harvard University, USA where he obtained an MBA. 

Youssef Nasr has an extensive banking experience with HSBC Group. He joined HSBC Group in 1976 and retired in 2010 having served both as Chairman as well as in senior management positions in several locations including New York, Paris, London, Toronto, Vancouver, Sao Paulo and Dubai.

From 1997 to 1999 he was the President and CEO of HSBC Canada and from 1999 to 2003 he served as President and CEO of HSBC USA and HSBC North America. 

From 2003 to 2006 he was the Chairman of HSBC Brazil and Group General Manager of HSBC South America.

From 2007 to 2010 he served as Chairman and CEO of HSBC Middle East and North Africa.

Youssef Nasr is currently involved in teaching at the FIDE Program, which is sponsored by the Central Bank of Malaysia, to train Financial Institution Directors in the areas of corporate governance, risk management, strategy and leadership. He is also teaching at the Executive MBA Program at the American University of Beirut as well as working on an ad-hoc basis on consulting projects. 

Youssef Nasr is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metin Mitchell & Company, a Dubai-based executive search and management advisory firm and a Member of the Board of Directors of Brookfield Asset Management, which is one of the largest alternative asset managers in the world with total assets under management over USD 250 billion.  He is also involved in various capacities with other organizations in the US and China.
