Tsielepis to Represent Cyprus at VAT Expert Academy in Germany

Alexis Tsielepis will represent Cyprus for the third year in a row at the International VAT Expert Academy (IVEA) in Dusseldorf, Germany in October.

The high-level, two-day Academy appeals to experienced VAT managers, consultants and officials dealing with VAT from all over the world who will discuss in the course of 18 interactive workshops various issues that arise in their day-to-day business. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on 4-5 October 2018.

Tsielepis, Managing Director of the island’s first VAT dedicated consulting firm, Chelco VAT Ltd, will co-lead a workshop on the VAT treatment of cross border supplies in construction projects, including installation of machinery and equipment.

Other workshops will cover such topics as voluntary disclosures and VAT, vouchers and VAT, mergers and acquisitions in VAT, VAT in warehousing, GST/HST and other North American sales taxes, Brexit and VAT, consignment and call-off stock, transfer pricing and VAT, SAP and VAT, chain transactions, VAT in e-commerce, VAT in the automotive sector, ECJ case law and more. The Academy’s plenary session will be led by Dr. Aleksandra Bal, Manager with the International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) in Amsterdam, who will talk about the opportunities and challenges brought about by blockchain, virtual currency, smart contracts and initial coin offerings.

Apart from Cyprus, the rest of the countries represented at the Academy by their leading VAT experts are Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Check Republic, France, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Canada.

The workshops will have an international focus and be conducted in English. Following a short introduction, individual case studies will be distributed after which, participants will be given the opportunity to discuss their individual cases and to determine best practice solutions.

Tsielepis is widely acknowledged as Cyprus’ foremost VAT expert. He is a holder of the coveted Expert in European VAT Degree and sits on various committees charged with indirect tax matters, including the VAT Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus, on which he has held various positions. He lectures extensively in Cyprus and Europe on VAT for private and public companies, professionals and institutions as well as government agencies and departments.

He has written a number of tax syllabuses and articles on matters pertaining to Cyprus and EU VAT.
