Marios Eliades Donates 5,000 Protective Masks To The British High Commission

Former Minister of Transport and Communications, Marios Eliades has donated 5,000 protective masks to the British High Commission in Cyprus, supporting yet again the principle of solidarity on which the European Union is based.

The donation of 5,000 protective masks falls under the efforts to tackle the spread of Covid-19 internationally, as well as to strengthen the endeavours of British doctors and nurses, who are still at the forefront of the fight against the deadly virus.

Eliades said that the offer is a tangible example of support to the people of UK, where many of our Cypriot compatriots reside. The struggle, he said, is common and we must all stand in solidarity with our fellow European citizens, who have been hit the hardest by this pandemic.

The donation to the British High Commission follows an initial donation of 10,000 protective masks to the Ministry of Health of Cyprus and another 5,000 for the Italian Embassy in Nicosia.

The British High Commission has expressed its gratitude to Eliades and characterised the donation as a generous offer from an old friend. The Commission has also stressed that moves like these are indicative of the solidarity between Cyprus and the United Kingdom when dealing with shared challenges, as in the case of Covid-19.
