Ioannis Pantoleon: We Invest, Guide and Help Our Companies

Ioannis Pantoleon: We Invest, Guide and Help Our Companies

What is the significance of the annual Limassol Economic Forum?

Over the last 10 years, the Limassol Forum has become the biggest and most prestigious business gathering in Cyprus, enlisting well-known, highly respected international participants and speakers, covering topics which top the agendas of all of us who are actively participating and investing in global economic developments.

What made you decide to become a sponsor of the event?

We have been proud sponsors of the event for the last three years, showing our commitment to the Cypriot economy and our activity through three of the Group’s companies. We strongly believe that our presence brings significant value to the local market: Public in the retail sector, Westnet in electronics distribution and SoftOne in software development.

This year’s theme is ‘The World in 2020-2030’. How do you expect the global and local economy to develop over the next decade?

Overall, the global economy has enjoyed more than 10 years of constant growth, despite the issues in the economies of Greece and Cyprus in recent years and the turbulence we have experienced in the global markets due to “trade wars” or other peripheral conflicts and developments such as Brexit or the conflict with Iran. For the next decade, some analysts expect a slowdown in the economic growth but we believe that it will be corrective and temporary. On the other hand, we also believe that the next decade will be characterized by low interest rates, a green economy, energy storage solutions, Big Data and the Internet of Things in a possibly volatile environment, with national political developments playing a role in the global economy. In any case, we feel that Cyprus has a strong and flexible economy with solid fundamentals and is able to face any challenges and pressures brought about by global economic volatility.

What are the main challenges that you expect your particular sector to face in the coming 10 years?

Olympia Group is an International Investment Group, active in six diverse business sectors and operating in various European countries. The Group’s companies are key players in Retail, Manufacturing, Distribution, Software, Telecoms and Real Estate. All our investments are in sectors that are expected to grow and play a significant role in the economy in the years to come. Obviously, each corporate entity operating in such a diverse business environment should be prepared to face all types of issues and challenges in the coming years, ranging from cybersecurity to extreme market fluctuations and natural disasters. We invest, guide and help our companies to establish the required capabilities and strengths so as to continue their dynamic growth, but also to be able to overcome any challenges that they may face in a highly competitive, volatile and constantly changing international environment, while maintaining our fundamental principles of dedication, creativity and belief in our corporate philosophy.

Olympia Group Ltd is an International Investment Group founded by Panos Germanos in 1980 and has a strong presence in 10 countries. Its subsidiaries employ over 8,500 personnel in key business areas such as Telecommunications, Industry, Retail, Distribution & Business Software. An experienced Management team, with a successful track record, a strong business culture and corporate governance structures operating under the standards of the most up-to-date business practices, are key factors offering Olympia Group Ltd a competitive advantage, aiming at sustainable growth and continuously creating value for its shareholders.
