Revenue from Tourism up On an Annual Basis By 8.5% In January 2018

Revenue from tourism was up on an annual basis by 8.5% in January this year, despite a drop in expenditure per person and per day of tourists, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Tuesday 10 April, show.

The results of the Passenger Survey show that revenue from tourism reached €38.4 million in January 2018 compared to €35.4 million in the same month of the previous year, recording an increase of 8.5%.

Expenditure per person in January 2018 reached €506.49 compared to €565.48 in January 2017, recording a decrease of 10.4%.

Expenditure per person/per day for January 2018 compared to January 2017 also fell by 6.4%, the Cyprus News Agency reports.

In January 2018 a decrease of 20.1% was recorded in the expenditure per person for tourists from the United Kingdom, down from €727.29 in January 2017 to €581.29 in January 2018.

A drop was also recorded in expenditure per person of tourists from Greece by 7.3%, down from €343.56 to €318.36 and tourists from Russia by 3.9%. down from €606.82 to €583.37 this year.

Expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom recorded a drop of 16.6%, from €60.11 in January 2017 to €50.11 in January 2018.

Expenditure per person/per day by tourists from Greece also fell by 0.9% from €37.34 to €37.02) and by tourists from Russia by 17.1%, from €80.91 to €67.05.
