Over Half a Million Tourists in Cyprus in July 2018

On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 539,626 in July 2018 compared to 531,030 in July 2017, recording an increase of 1.6%. July 2018 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month.

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, for the period of January – July 2018 arrivals of tourists totaled 2,184,775 compared to 1,994,236 in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 9.6% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first seven months of the year.

Tourist arrivals from Sweden increased by 15.0% in July 2018 compared to July 2017 while an increase of 15.9% was recorded for tourists from Lebanon. Contrary to that, a decrease of 1.1% in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, 5.9% decrease from Russia, 22.2% decrease from Israel and 14.5% decrease from Germany were recorded.

The United Kingdom constitutes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for July 2018, with a proportion of 32.4% while arrivals from Russia comprise 22.5% of total arrivals, from Israel 6.1% and from Sweden 4.8%.

For a percentage of 87.7% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in July 2018 was holidays, for 9.8% visit to friends and relatives and for 2.5% business.
