The International School of Paphos Goes to Epidaurus

The International School of Paphos Goes to Epidaurus

The ISOP’s Greek theatre group – that won third prize at the 30th Pancyprian School Theatre Competition organised by THOC, for their play "Trojan Women" by Euripides, which was directed by their teacher Paola Hadjilambri – was given the opportunity to travel along with other students from the Agios Athanasios Gymnasium from Limassol for an educational trip to Athens and Epidaurus.

The students and their teachers were thrilled upon their return from their educational trip to Athens and Epidaurus, which took place from 4 to 7 July 2019. Both the children and the teachers expressed their enthusiasm, since they were given the unique opportunity to get to know the culture and splendour of Greece, by visiting museums and cultural institutes while they had the opportunity to watch three high-quality performances. The main highlight was the ancient Greek tragedy "The Suppliants" by Euripides which was held at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, and was the result of the collaboration between the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOC) and the National Theatre of Greece.

The ISOP congratulates and expresses a warm ‘thank you’ to THOC for this initiative as well as Marina Maleni, for organising an excellent trip for the children. The ISOP also thanks Carbo One Ltd for its generous sponsorship, as well as Chelco VAT for the support. All of the above made the dream of the 27 children and their 5 teachers come true.

In her comments, Hadjilambri said: "The 'International School of Paphos', although an English-speaking school, has been consistently promoting the Greek language and culture in recent years. We have been participating in the Pancyprian School Theatre Competition for the past three years with great success, while our students and teachers constantly attend theatre performances and seminars. The ISOP is also starting to build a professional state of the art theatre for 300 spectators on ISOP grounds, which will be creating synergies and events with local and international artists as well as cultural organisations from all over the world.”
