Fiber to The Room (FTTR) is the installation and use of fiber optics from a central point directly to individual hotel rooms.

The aim of FTTR is to provide abundant high-speed Internet access in order to increase dramatically the connection speeds available to Internet users and to offer support to next-generation smart technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) Voice Over IP (VOIP), etc.

However, the ultimate goal of Fiber to the Room technology is to offer hotel guests a 5-star experience. ‘Guest experience’ is a general term used for how a guest feels throughout what is called the guest lifecycle or guest journey. A 5-star experience does not necessarily refer to luxury; it is rather the best possible experience a guest will receive in order to make him/her rate the hotel with the perfect score of 5 out of 5 (or 10 out of 10 depending on which platform the hotel is registered), which is the ultimate goal of every hotel.

Based on ratings, the most important factors which define whether a hotel provides a 5-star guest experience are Internet-related factors such as abundant broadband access, Wi-Fi connectivity and various online services such as online control of lights, curtains and temperature and online communication with room service and the front desk.

Secondary factors, which are not Internet-related, include the hotel’s location, staff, comfort, cleanliness and other guests’ reviews.

FTTR gives you the possibility to have all those Internet-related factors at your fingertips through an application or a tablet. Through an application or a tablet, a hotel can turn its rooms into virtual boardrooms for business travellers and into an extension of one’s own home for tourist travellers.

Advantages of FTTR:

1. 5-Star Guest Experience: Higher reviews lead to more bookings.

2. Future Proof Technology: There are no maintenance costs or upgrades required because fiber optic technology is here to stay.

3. Fiber optic cables replace coaxial cables, which have limitations and need higher maintenance costs.

4. Fiber technology can support future smart technologies such as IoT, 5G, Digital Construction, etc., and can convert a hotel room into a state-of-the-art technological environment.

RedMax Technologies is the first integrator company in Cyprus which, in cooperation with the world’s top technology companies, can study, design and build fiber optic networks in hotels that wish to offer smart rooms to their customers.
