Joining Forces – Overcoming Challenges And Supporting Sustainable Growth In The Post-COVID Economy

Joining Forces – Overcoming Challenges And Supporting Sustainable Growth In The Post-COVID Economy

IMH is organizing the digital event “4th Cyprus International Tax Conference” on Thursday 30, March, 2021 to address the most recent trends and developments in taxation across Europe and the globe.

One of the guest star speakers of this year’s event is Gerassimos Thomas, the Director-General in the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union at the European Commission.

The past year has brought unprecedented challenges for the global economy. Whether due to the coronavirus pandemic, Brexit, or the unfolding political situation in the United States, uncertainty has plagued the business environment. Also, while the end of the crisis is hopefully in sight, the post-COVID economy will pose new challenges for the EU and its Member States. Even in the optimistic scenario of relatively swift economic recovery, public debt will rise to unprecedented levels – 102% of GDP in 2020, and continuing to go up by around 1% across 2021 and 2022.

However, the pandemic has shown that the EU is still capable of joining forces, of overcoming division to take swift, important action. An unprecedented financial recovery programme -Next Generation EU- and a revamped EU budget have been put forward, alongside new proposals to bring certainty and stability for businesses and create a more resilient business environment while also ensuring their pay their fair share of tax.

The measures that will roll out in 2021 should boost competitiveness and innovation, help us make the most of digitalisation, and support the transition towards a green economy, all while financing the recovery. This agenda will accompany the systemic modernisation that the EU economy, society and industry needs to support long-term, sustainable, growth, while also increasing the capacity of governments to better respond to future crises.

The Conference will be conducted in English, and full participation could correspond up to 4 CPD units. For more information regarding the event, click here.
