President Expresses Strong Determination To Participate In Informal Meeting In Geneva On Cyprus

President Nicos Anastasiades has expressed strong determination to participate in the informal meeting on Cyprus which will take place in Geneva.  The UN announced on Wednesday that an informal five-plus-one meeting on the Cyprus issue will take place 27-29 April, with the purpose to determine whether common ground exists for the parties to negotiate a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem, within a foreseeable horizon.

President Anastasiades in a written statement on Thursday said that he has the political will to attend the meeting, expressing hope that it will lead to the conditions for the resumption of the dialogue for a viable and functional solution to the interest of both communities on the island.

He noted that the solution must be based on the High-Level Agreements, the UN Resolutions, the EU principles and must lead to the evolution for the Cyprus Republic to a functional and viable bizonal, bicommunal federation, within the parameters which were reconfirmed during a meeting the UN Secretary General called in November 25, 2019 in Berlin and which were included in a statement by the SG, following the meeting.
