Kouyialis: Cyprus, Greece and Israel to Sign Joint Action Plan to Address Marine Oil Pollution

Cyprus, Greece and Israel will sign a joint action plan to address marine oil pollution.

The action plan will be signed by the three countries` Environment Ministers who are expected to hold a Trilateral Meeting in Nicosia in late October, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Nikos Kouyialis has told the Cyprus News Agency, adding that the three countries are set to conduct a table-top exercise on October 24 in the framework of the implementation of this action plan.

The action plan is currently being drafted, the agreement will be signed during the Trilateral Meeting and the table-top exercise will take place to address a marine oil pollution, Kouyialis said.

Furthermore, the three Ministers will look into the progress in other issues of cooperation among their Ministries, such as the processing and disposal of treated waste water and their cooperation on measures to address climate change.

On the issue of climate change, the aim is to have cooperation among academic/research institutions of Cyprus, Greece and Israel.

The Ministers of the three countries will also discuss about the progress achieved so far in promoting the processing of waste from oil mills.

Meanwhile, Cyprus and Egypt are working with a view to prepare a joint action plan to address marine oil pollution.
