Cyprus Was Informed About The Exercises Of The Russian Navy, Says Spokesman

Cyprus’ Government Spokesman Kyriacos Koushos said on Thursday that the Republic of Cyprus was informed about the two naval exercises that the Russian navy will hold in the Eastern Mediterannean.
Invited to comment on the new navigation telex (navtex) issued by Turkey for Russian naval exercises, Koushos said that it’s well known over the years Russia reaches out to Cyprus in case a notice to airmen (notam) or navigational telex (navtex) is issued and also informs a certain organization, called NAVAREA III in Spain. He added that it is also well known that Turkey is intervening by issuing its own navtex.
The Spokesman said that according to the usual procedure Russia "is informing NAVAREA III, but Cyprus is also informed. He added that "when it comes to issuing a notam, this is done by the Republic of Cyprus at the request of the Russian Federation".
Asked whether the Republic of Cyprus was informed, Koushos said the government "clearly was informed about everything".
He also said that the Republic of Cyprus has no complaint regarding the procedure followed, and that the only complaint is about Turkey exploiting the situation.
