Cyprus and Jordan Discuss a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and Aviation Agreement

Cyprus and Jordan Discuss a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and Aviation Agreement

Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Cyprus, Ayman Safadi and Ioannis Kasoulides ,stressed the significance of concluding a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and an Aviation Agreement between the two countries, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, adding that the two ministers agreed to set up a joint working group to immediately promote the conclusion of the pending bilateral agreement, as well as to promote business and investment exchanges.

According to the press release, Kasoulides wrapped up on Wednesday his working visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. During the official deliberations with the Jordanian Foreign Minister, a series of bilateral and regional issues were thoroughly discussed.

As it is noted, the two ministers reviewed cooperation in the fields of security and defence, in the framework of which the Republic of Cyprus has granted military equipment to the Aqaba Process Initiative of the Jordanian Monarch with a view to reinforce the anti-terrorism forces of the countries of the region, the Cyprus News Agency reports.

Moreover the two ministers discussed thoroughly about regional issues, focusing on the Syrian and the Palestine issues, in which Jordan plays a substantive role, it is noted, adding that Kasoulides referred to the principled stance of Cyprus and underlined the importance of coordinating moderate countries of the region with a view to find solutions.

Safadi and Kasoulides also discussed about the EU - Jordan relations and the former thanked his Cypriot counterpart for the important role which Cyprus plays within the EU in reinforcing its cooperation with the country. Moreover they discussed about the trilateral cooperation (among Cyprus, Greece and Jordan) and the implementation of concrete projects for its promotion, in view of the forthcoming meeting of the three Foreign Ministries Permanent Secretaries that will take place in Athens next week.

Kasoulides was also received by Abdullah II of Jordan, with whom he discussed about the Trilateral Summit that will take place in Cyprus during the next few months.

The Jordanian Monarch expressed his satisfaction over the level of the relations between the two countries, noting at the same time the prospects to further deepen them in various fields as trade, tourism and security-defence.

He also praised Cyprus` support to Jordan within the EU and the fact that Cyprus has offered military help to Jordan, in the framework of the Aqaba Process Initiative.
