Christodoulides to Pay Official Visit to Kazakhstan

Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Christodoulides pays on Wednesday an official visit to Kazakhstan, during which he will discuss with his counterpart Beibut Atamkulov the Cyprus problem in relation with Turkey`s actions in Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and ways to enhance bilateral relations. He will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations and a double taxation avoidance treaty.

Christodoulides, departs for Kazakhstan`s capital Nur-Sultan today, a Foreign MInistry press release says.

The two ministers will have a private meeting and extended talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the context of which they are expected to review bilateral relations between the two countries and look into specific ways to further enhance their cooperation, it notes.

During the meeting, the press release continues, they are expected to discuss recent developments in the Cyprus issue in relation with Turkey`s illegal actions within Cyprus` EEZ while they will also exchange views on EU - Kazakhstan relations, as well as regional and international matters of common interest. 

According to the Cyprus News Agency, the two Foreign Ministers will sign an MoU in the area of political consultations between the two ministries and will hold a press conference after their meeting, at 0900 hours Cyprus time (0600 GMT).

Later on, Christodoulides will also hold a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Alikhan Smailov during which a double taxation avoidance treaty will be signed.

He will also have separate meetings with Senate Chairwoman Dariga Nazarbayeva and Chairman of the Mahzhilis, Kazakhstan`s parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin.

The Foreign Affairs Minister returns to Cyprus on May 16.
