Christodoulides and Georgia FM Discuss Cyprus Issue, Bilateral and Regional Developments

The Cyprus issue, EU-Georgia relations, bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed on Wednesday during a meeting in Tbilisi between the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and his Georgian counterpart David Zalkaliani.
 
The two Foreign Ministers also signed two agreements regarding health and the mutual protection of classified information, as a well as a Memorandum of Understanding on agriculture.
 
A Ministry announcement says that Christodoulides, who is accompanying the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades in his official visit to the country, had initially a tête-à-tête with Zalkaliani, followed by deliberations with the delegations of the two Foreign Ministries, reviewing bilateral relations.
 
The two Ministers also reaffirmed the high level of cooperation between the two countries and expressed their common will to further enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, renewable energy, tourism and education.
 
Foreign Minister Christodoulides also had the chance to inform his counterpart about the latest developments with regard to the Cyprus issue.
 
Speaking after the meeting, Cyprus’ Foreign Minister also referred to the first official visit ever paid by a President of Cyprus to Georgia, calling it a landmark in bilateral relations.

He also said that negotiations will start soon between the competent Ministries in order to conclude more agreements on issues of common interest.
 
Christodoulides also said that the Republic of Cyprus fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and expressed support towards efforts to strengthen Georgia’s relations with the EU.
