Relations between Saudi Arabia and Cyprus have become closer under the leadership of the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) said.

According to an announcement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, President Anastasiades met with Al Zayani on Wednesday, in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. The GCC official thanked the President for the position Cyprus maintains within the EU vis-à-vis Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was also attended by the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides and other officials, the Cyprus News Agency reports.

President Anastasiades arrived on January 2 in Riyadh and is the first President of Cyprus to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
