President Says He Is Determined To Facilitate UN Secretary-General To Convene Five-Party Conference On Cyprus

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades conveyed his resoluteness to facilitate the UN Secretary-General to convene an informal five-party Conference on Cyprus, during a meeting he had on Tuesday evening with the leadership of the ruling Democratic Rally party and members of the Cabinet.

During the meeting, the President informed those present about the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue, following the election of Ersin Tatar in the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community, as well as about their first meeting and on Turkish unlawful activities in Varosha and in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Cyprus, says a written statement by Government Spokesman Kyriacos Koushos. Moreover, the President referred to actions by the Cyprus government in order to put an end to these provocations.

“The President of the Republic reiterated his resoluteness to do everything possible to facilitate with all means available the UN Secretary-General in convening an informal five-party Conference on Cyprus, ahead of Lute’s visit at the end of the month” the Government Spokesman said, referring to the forthcoming contacts of UN envoy, Jane Holl Lute, in Cyprus.

Government efforts to handle the pandemic, as well as the pandemic’s financial repercussions and state support for employees and businesses were also discussed at the meeting, along with coordination matters with the ruling party to pass a series of draft bills pending before parliament.
