Pilides Welcomes Progress on 'Single Maritime Port'

Pilides Welcomes Progress on 'Single Maritime Port'

Cyprus welcomed the progress made in relation to the "Single Maritime Port" in the discussions of the 28 Transport Ministers, meeting yesterday and today in Brussels, where the Republic of Cyprus was represented by Deputy Minister of Shipping Natasa Pilides.

"In the framework of the Transport Council, some important issues for European shipping, which we believe will help boost the competitiveness of European shipping and reduce bureaucracy, have been discussed. An important issue is the minimum level of training of European Mariners, but also the mutual recognition of seafarers` certificates, which also safeguards the safety of seafarers at sea", said the State Secretary, speaking to the Press and Information Office (PIO).

According to the Cyprus News Agency, she also added that "the second important issue is the environment of `Single Maritime Port`, which we believe will greatly reduce bureaucracy, and will allow ships that approach European ports to do so much more effectively."

"Cyprus has always been a supporter of this proposal, and we are especially pleased to see that it is proceeding within the framework of the Transport Council," the Deputy Minister concluded.
