Jobless Persons in Cyprus Drops by an Annual 20.7% in September 2019

The number of registered unemployed persons in Cyprus dropped to 16,968 in September marking a reduction of 20.7% compared to the respective period of 2018, the Cyprus Statistical Service reports.

On the basis of seasonally adjusted data, which show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed in September 2019 decreased to 21,216 persons in comparison to 21,712 in the previous month, Cystat added.

Compared with September 2018, the registered unemployed persons decreased by 4,431 persons, mainly attributed to the sectors of public administration (a decrease of 630), trade (a decrease of 629), construction (a decrease of 557), accommodation and food service activities (a decrease of 315), manufacturing (a decrease of 257), education (a decrease of 151) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 1.163).

The number of registered unemployed peaked in February 2014 to 53,204 persons.
