Brexit Is Not Expected to Affect Tourism, Says The President Of PASYXE Famagusta

Brexit is not expected to affect tourist traffic from the UK to Cyprus, Doros Takkas, President of the Pancyprian Hoteliers Association of Famagusta, told CNA.

Asked how Brexit affects the Cyprus Tourism Industry, Mr. Takkas expressed satisfaction because as he explained, "According to the information we have so far, the tourist movement from the UK to our island is not affected, since we have not seen any obstacles to travel to Cyprus and Europe in general so far. Fortunately one does not need a visa to visit Britain or other countries in Europe and vice versa."

Regarding this issue, he continued, "we do not expect any particular problems, but what no one knows is how much the UK will be affected following Brexit, as it is alrready facing economic problems, both in tourism and other sectors as well".

Mr Takkas said that "The only thing hoteliers and entrepreneurs can do for now is keep an eye on all the developments regarding covid-19 vaccination". The uncertainty regarding the future of tourism not only in Cyprus but also worldwide, concluded Doros Takkas is a great setback as nothing can be arranged for sure until the majority of the population is vaccinated, at least in the countries of the EU.
