‘Fireside Chat’ with Kyriakos Mitsotakis

‘Fireside Chat’ with Kyriakos Mitsotakis

A highlight of last week’s 9th Nicosia Economic Congress in Nicosia was an on-stage ‘fireside chat’-type interview with Kyriacos Mitsotakis, Chairman of Greece’s main opposition party New Democracy, conducted by John Vickers, Editor-in-Chief of GOLD.

Mitsotakis impressed the audience with his knowledge of the Cypriot economy and business sector, as well as his excellent English-speaking skills. At the start of the interview, he gave credit to the government of Nicos Anastasiades for successfully improving public finances and re-establishing economic growth without increasing taxes, suggesting that he will follow the Cypriot example if he becomes the next Prime Minister of Greece.

He made it clear that he intends to reduce taxes across the board, both individual and corporate, in an effort to relieve the country’s middle class and business community, which, he said, has borne the brunt of the longstanding Greek financial crisis. He spoke of his vision for Greece to become “a destination for global capital” and “a rapidly growing economy with growth rates of around 4% in the short term”.

The whole interview can be seen here:
