YoungShip Cyprus holds Annual General Assembly

‘YoungShip Cyprus’ held the Annual General Assembly of its members on 9th February 2018 at ‘Diamante Blue’, in Limassol.

During the General Assembly, the annual activity report and the accounts for the financial year 2017 were presented by Philippos Ioulianou and Sotiris Kambanellas respectively and approved by the members of the Association. Elections for new board members took place and the new Board for the period 2018 – 2020 is formed as follows:


President: Sotiris Kambanellas.

Kambanellas is the Business Development Manager (Europe) for ‘Fleet Management Ltd’. Kambanellas is an experienced shipping professional with knowledge in Business, Finance and Controlling. He is a holder of a degree in Accounting and Finance, the professional title ‘ACCA’ and member of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Shipbroakers. Kambanellas is a YoungShip Cyprus board member since 2015 serving as the Vice-President until recently, he is also an active member of the local shipping community participating in the Development sub-committee of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber. Vise-president: Philippos Ioulianou.

Ioulianou is the former president of YoungShip Cyprus and one of the founders of the organization. He is also a board member of YoungShip International. He is currently working as OEM Service Sales and Implementation Manager for Global Service Agreements for ‘ABB’ in Zurich, Switzerland. Ioulianou has gained international work experience in shipping, real estate, power and energy. He studied Engineering and Law in the UK and pursued Business studies in France and Italy. LinkedIn profile:


Secretary General: George Lazarou.

Lazarou is one of the co-founders of ‘Servway Ltd’ and has 7 years of working experience in the shipping industry, where he has worked for Ship Management Companies, as well as, in Ship Repair Companies. Lazarou is a holder of a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Maritime Operations and Management. He is also currently pursuing the Engineer Office of the Watch (EOOW Unlimited) course to achieve the respective Certificate of Competency.  Lazarou is a Board member since 2016. LinkedIn profile:


Treasurer: Panayiota Gregoriou.

Gregoriou studied Marine Sciences (BSc) at the University of the Aegean, Greece. She has worked in the Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean as a Researcher and Administration Manager. As a researcher she participated in the MEDNET, CoRINThos Lynceus2Market, PELAGOS and BlueNet Projects. She was also the Administration Officer of the Cyprus Shortsea Promotion Centre. Gregoriou has been working in ‘Furuno Cyprus’ since 2016 as Service Coordinator and has been a member of YoungShip Cyprus since 2013 and a board member since 2016. LinkedIn profile:


Assistant Secretary-General: Demetra Malliarou.

Malliarou was born in Kavala, Greece and has been living in Cyprus since 2011, where she pursued her degree in Commerce, Finance & Shipping, in the Cyprus University of Technology. Malliarou is currently holding the position of Freight Collection Officer, in the Commercial & Insurance Department of ‘Diana Wilhelmsen Management Ltd’.  Malliarou is a member of YoungShip Cyprus since 2015 and a Board member since 2016. LinkedIn profile:


Events Officer: Spyros Spyrou.

Spyrou has graduated from the University of Salford in Manchester, UK with a Bsc International Business and Management degree and he is working as an Operations Executive at ‘Medpool Ltd-Fameline Holding Group’ since 2014. LinkedIn profile:


Press and Social Media Officer: Antonis Varnava.

Varnava has graduated from the University of Surrey, UK in Bsc Business Economics with Computing and also from Cass Business School with MSc Shipping, Trade and Finance. Varnava is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and is the Business Development Manager at ‘Shoham (Cyprus) Ltd’, a shipping and logistics company situated in Limassol. Development and Marketing Officer: Constantinos Spyrou.

Spyrou is the Chief Commercial Officer at ‘Tototheo Maritime’ and over the last decade and has extensive experience and knowledge in regards to Maritime Satellite Communications Systems, as well as, Electronic and Navigational Equipment development. Spyrou graduated in Toronto, Canada and has been certified by the prestigious Copenhagen Business School in regards to Maritime Cyber Security. LinkedIn profile:


External Legal Advisor: Irene Elia.

Elia was awarded the undergraduate degree on “LLB (Bachelor of Laws)”, followed by the postgraduate degree on “LLM (Master of Laws) in Commercial Law”, both from the University of Sheffield, UK. Elia has been admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association since 2011 and is currently positioned in the Litigation Department of ‘Elia & Elia L.L.C.’.
