Nicos Anastasiades: Mitigating The Pandemic’s Social And Economic Impact Remains Our Main Concern

Nicos Anastasiades: Mitigating The Pandemic’s Social And Economic Impact Remains Our Main Concern

Mitigating the social and economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the return of all sectors of the economy to maximum operation remain the government’s main concern, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has said.

Addressing the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus’ 59th Annual General Meeting, Anastasiades said that in this context the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Fund is considered as of particular importance as €1,09 billion are earmarked for Cyprus for the completion of investment and reforms with special emphasis on the green economy and the digital transition, adding that he is aware of ICPAC’s particular interest in fully utilising the Fund.

Furthermore, Anastasiades stressed the government priority on “continuing the prudent fiscal and economic policy focusing on implementing structural reforms to the state and its structures.”

“The crises of the last years showed the significance and importance of assuming a targeted strategy,” he added, noting that the crises also show the importance of collective work, collaboration with political forces and social partners, as well as the beneficial cooperation between the public and the private sector.

Concluding, the President turned to ICPAC, stating that “in our new effort to tackle the challenges created by the pandemic, we are investing on utilising your momentum, technocratic and particular knowledge characterizing the Association’s members.”
