Marios Demetriades and George Xiradakis Address Cyprus Marine Club’s AGM

Michael G. Ioannides, founded the Cyprus Marine Club in 1999 and for his contribution and support was honoured by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Marios Demetriades in light of Ioannides’ retirement as President due to continuous overseas commitments.  Ioannides will remain as Honorary President and the Presidency was succeeded by Capt. Eberhard Koch, Chairman & CEO of the ӦL Shipping Group.   

Minister Demetriades stated, “I would like to assure you that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works will continue to cooperate with and support the Cyprus Marine Club to reinforce and enhance the Cyprus maritime cluster.   I am sure the new President, Capt. Koch, will succeed.”

George Xiradakis, President of the International Propeller Club of the Port of Piraeus and Managing Director of XRTC was welcomed to the Open Session where he announced that the relationship between the two Clubs would be welcomed and that whilst the Cyprus Marine Club remaining independent, all Members would be greeted and invited to events being hosted by the Propeller Club of Piraeus, thus strengthening the connection between the two countries. Dr. Konstantinos Rokkos, Shipowner and Vice President of the International  Propeller  Club  of  South  Europe  and North  Africa  and  Chairman  &  CEO  of  Trans  Sea 
Transport, Greece also attended and was “delighted to see the growth of the Cyprus Marine Club”. 

Capt. Koch on receiving the Presidency announced his commitment for the benefit of the Members and the Cyprus maritime community sharing details of the Club’s journey ahead as well as the anticipated programme of events for 2017 bringing industry colleagues, associates and friends together.

A proposal of Capt. Koch to welcome for a very nominal amount the students from the Cyprus Maritime Academy as members of the Cyprus Marine Club thus exposing them on a social platform having direct access to the broad spectrum of industry related colleagues was fully endorsed.

Two new board appointments adding to the existing 9 members of the Board of Governors were announced; Yvonne Tsanos, General Manager of ӦL Shipping Group and Marios Nicolaou, CEO, CarobMill Restaurants. Tsanos was also elected to the position of the Club’s Secretary General.

A cocktail reception followed for VIP guests and non-members in the Club’s venue.
