EUROPOL at the 2nd Data Forum

George Z. Georgiou & Associates LLC presents the 2nd Data Forum on Thursday, 28 February 2019 at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia, Cyprus. Speakers from Cyprus and abroad will share their experience and expertise in data collection, data management, data analytics and data protection.

IMH is organising the 2nd Data Forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities that have arisen during the implementation period of the GDPR regulation, as well as to explore the potential of data in the context of technological innovation. This cross-industry forum is intended as a platform to help facilitate discussions on how data can be transformed into value and how international standards can facilitate that process.

One of this year’s speakers is Sónia Cristina de Sousa Pereira, a Specialist at the Data Protection Function of Europol in Netherlands. Previously, she worked as a consultant for the Portuguese Data Protection Authority, dealing with law enforcement matters, among other topics. She is a former criminal lawyer and a researcher who worked on the implementation of victim-offender mediation and other restorative practices in Portugal. Sónia has also worked also in the legislative process of the Portuguese Government. Her areas of expertise include: data protection, law enforcement, penal law, restorative justice and the criminal justice system, gender equality. In her presentation, Sónia will explore individuals’ rights in cyberspace and how a balance can be maintained between freedom and security without compromising personal privacy.
