DP World Limassol Welcomes “Jewel of The Seas” and “Viking Star”

DP World Limassol Welcomes “Jewel of The Seas” and “Viking Star”

DP World Limassol successfully welcomed one of the largest cruise ships berthed at Limassol port. The Royal Caribbean’s “Jewel of the Seas” arrived at the DP World Limassol Cruise Terminal on Tuesday, 5 November 2019, for a one-day maiden. Upon its arrival, the cruise ship was warmly welcomed by Limassol Mayor Nicos Nicolaides and DP World Limassol’s General Manager Charles Meaby, who exchanged plaques with the captain of the ship. On the same day MV “Viking star”, the lead ship of the Viking star class with over 227 meters in length, was also welcomed to Limassol.

Launched in the spring of 2004, “Jewel of the Seas” is a Radiance-class Royal Caribbean ship and with a length of 293 meters and 2,500-passenger capacity, it is one of the largest cruise ships ever to arrive at Limassol port. More specifically, the passenger vessel berthed at the Limassol Cruise Terminal within the framework of a 12-day itinerary, named round-trip Holy Land. The itinerary started on 30 October 2019, when the cruise liner departed from the port of Civitavecchia in Rome, and is expected to end on 11 November 2019.

In statements, the General Manager of DP World Limassol said: “We are very excited to have welcomed both stunning cruise ships at Limassol port. With the current arrivals we’re seeing are indicating that Limassol as a destination has regained momentum.” He added, “at DP World Limassol we are committed to offering passengers and cruise liners a unique experience and our team is ready to provide first-class service”. Mr. Meaby also underlined that “Cyprus can be developed into a key player in the Eastern Mediterranean region; thus, we have significantly invested in building up a strong relationship with important stakeholders, raising at the same time awareness on the Cypriot tourism product”.

Limassol Mayor Nicos Nicolaides congratulated DP World Limassol for setting the bar so high, especially in terms of customer service. “Achieving sustainable cruise tourism is a continuous process that requires commitment, cooperation and continuous effort. The arrival of ‘Jewel of the Seas’ and Viking star at Limassol Port is a result of these efforts. Limassol is an ideal destination for travellers and we strongly advise them to visit the local attractions and experience what Limassol has to offer,” he pointed out.
