Cyprus to Host Its First Comic Con

Cyprus to Host Its First Comic Con

September 13 will see Cyprus host its first Comic Con, a fan convention dedicated to comic book culture.

Having begun in San Diego, California, in 1970, comic cons have become enormously popular, held annually worldwide. The events celebrate the art and culture derived from comic books, including the subsequent movies, TV series, animations, action figures based upon original comics.

In Cyprus, the event is being organized by the Cyprus Comic Con (CCC), a non-profit organization.

This first event will be “experimental,” says Despina Theocharidou, PR Manager of Cyprus Comic Con.

Expected to discern the public expectation of such an event, the September convention will let the organisation “know what to change for the next events,” Theocharidou added, indicating that the organisation intends on making the Comic Con an annual event.

She also noted that the CCC is seeking sponsors for the event.

CCC members include Tasos Anastassiades, lecturer at European University and editor of comics, Christos Ellinas, Antonis Aristodemou, Peter Anders Hvass and Despina Theocharidou.

The Cyprus Comic Con will be held at the European University. Admission will be free of charge.
