And the Winner is … !

And the Winner is … !

And the Winner of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2015 is … Brazilian team eFitFashion!

With an aim to inspiring and challenging student developers the world over to master new skills, build strong teams and bring entire technology projects from concept to completion, the Microsoft Imagine Cup has come to completion for yet another year.

The Finals of this, the 13th installment of the student startup programme and competition - throughout which Gold News was present - saw a total of 33 student teams converge on the Microsoft Campus in Seattle, Washington, to present their unique projects and vie for the title of Champion.

This coveted title was bestowed upon Brazilian team eFitFashion by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella - pictured together left - during the competition’s final awards ceremony, held on Friday, July 31, during a live broadcast and in the presence of an audience of 5,000 students, judges, international journalists, partners and Microsoft employees at the Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle.

Team eFitFashion’s project, Clothes For Me, is a marketplace for custom tailored clothes based on a person’s unique body size and shape. As winners of the Imagine Cup, the team won $50,000, entry into a startup accelerator, and a private meeting with Satya Nadella.

eFitFashion came out ahead of two other competitors in the finals, each of which also came away with $50,000 for winning their categories. The first is Virtual Dementia Experience, which won the Imagine Cup World Citizenship title with an app to help caregivers understand the impact of dementia. The second was IzHard, which won the Imagine Cup Games competition with a black-and-white platforming game.

“All of you represent that passion to dream the impossible and make it possible. I want you to keep that dream alive,” Nadella told the Imagine Cup competitors on Friday. “What you started at this competition is going to grow, because of your passion, your dreams, your ability to take it forward and your ability to learn on the way. It’s such a pleasure for me to see the passion and the innovation you have demonstrated today.”

Explaining their project, the eFitFashion team said: “Clothes For Me is a online marketplace develop to sell custom made and tailored clothes in a simpler way. The goal is to increase the development of the ePMG software, which generates patterns of clothes automatically, based on the user's measures. That way, everyone can find clothes that fit perfectly, no matter what type of body you have. We aim to connect customers, seamstresses and clothing firms all over the world, offering them a channel to get in touch, with reliability and security.”

As one competition ends, so another begins; following the announcement of eFitFashion’s victory, Nadella revealed the launch of the 2016 Imagine Cup season, and invited a new round of students from around the world to join the initiative and, in doing so, embody the competition’s slogan Dream it, Build it, Live it.
