‘Get A Job’ Fair Crowned with Success

‘Get A Job’ Fair Crowned with Success

The second "Get A Job" fair was successfully completed on 30 October with the participation of more than 60 Cypriot and European companies and organizations that have job vacancies and are looking for staff.  Some 1,200 young people looking for a job visited the fair and had the opportunity to be briefed, meet face to face and be informed very concretely about prospects of employment suitable for them.

The "Get A Job" fair was organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, in cooperation with the EURES network. EURES is the EU's web portal which acts as a bridge between job providers and job seekers. The exhibition was held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia.

"We hope that this fair will become an institution. It is the second year that we have done it. We hope to have such annual fairs for many years to come, "said Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, Ierotheos Papadopoulos.

A total of 64 exhibitors, including 52 companies, EURES representatives from 7 countries and 4 governmental bodies working on employment, education and training for young unemployed people participated.

There was a lot of interest from young people as well as companies. It is important to note that overall companies collected 232 CVs from candidates, while in more than 25 cases, companies made an immediate job offer on the spot. There were also 13 other interviews which took place at the Fair.

Young participants were also interested in the ERASMUS+ program, as well as the EURES network with representatives from Ireland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Germany and France. Representatives of EURES Cyprus also took part in the Fair. A total of 328 young people were informed by the network's consultants from the 7 EURES countries and 250 people from EURES Cyprus. According to a EURES representative, "the most impressive outcome of the fair was that EURES representatives from Ireland, Germany and Italy offered concrete job opportunities on the spot to 15 jobseekers."

Three parallel workshops were held in Greek and English, in which 223 young people looking for work took part. At the workshops, experts advised participants on how to create strong CVs, prepare for job interviews and learn the process and benefits of enrolling in the Public Employment Service.
