Cyprus Trade Deficit Marks an Increase of 154 Million in the first 5 Months of 2019

The trade deficit in Cyprus marked an increase of 154 million in the first five months of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus total imports in January - May 2019 amounted to €3,345.4 mn as compared to €3,818.7 mn in January - May 2018. Total exports (covering total exports to third countries and to EU Member States) in January - May 2019 were €1,447.8 mn compared to €2,075.1 mn in January - May 2018.

As a result, the trade deficit was €1,897.6 mn for the first five months of the year compared to €1,743.6 mn in the corresponding period of 2018.

In addition, total exports of domestically produced goods, excluding stores and provisions, in January - May 2019 were €512.7 mn compared to €593.6 mn in January - May 2018. Total domestic exports of industrial products in January - May 2019 were €448.6 mn compared to €530.4 mn in January - May 2018.

Finally, the total domestic exports of agricultural products in January - May 2019 were €57.3 mn compared to €56.3 mn in January - May 2018.
