Cyprus Seeds Brings to Cyprus Leon Sandler, the Executive Director of MIT Deshpande Center for Technology Innovation

On the 2nd of December Leon Sandler, the Executive Director of MIT Deshpande Center for Technology Innovation was the keynote speaker at the Corporate Lunch organized by Cyprus Seeds, sponsored by Eurobank and supported by the Embassy of U.S in Cyprus.

In an effort to further support the 7 Cyprus Seeds Teams, a Corporate Lunch was organized, and more than 30 corporate CEOs and Managing Directors were invited at Pinakothiki Restaurant at A.G Leventis Gallery and had the opportunity to meet the 7 Cyprus Seeds Teams who presented their innovative research.

Leon Sandler, gave a talk, based on his 16 years of experience at MIT, on the topic “The Beauty of Commercializing Academic Research”.

Jeremy Downward, the Chairman of Cyprus Seeds welcomed the attendees and thanked Eurobank and the Embassy of the U.S in Cyprus for supporting the Event. Followed by Maria Georgiadou, the Managing Director of Cyprus Seeds, she briefly presented to the 60 attendees the mission of Cyprus Seeds as well as its activities at its first Funding Cycle (June 2019 – July 2020). She also thanked program’s initial donors and supporters for helping Cyprus Seeds’ efforts to leverage high-quality research.

Leon Sandler talking for the “The beauty of Commercializing Academic Research” presented projects that were not just academic curiosity but also have potential for large impact and he highlighted important aspects of a project in order to be successful.

Each of the 7 Cyprus Seeds Teams gave a 3-minute talk presenting their innovative research and the milestones achieved during the 5 months at Cyprus Seeds. Four (4) teams are from the Healthcare sector, two (2) teams are from the Energy & Water sector and one (1) team is from Devices & Material sector.

The Ambassadors of the USA, Israel, Netherlands, and representatives of government such as the Research Innovation Foundation, KEBE, OEB, and Ministry of Finance gave their presence. More than 30 CEOs and Managing Directors from various corporations such as The Hellenic Initiative, Eurobank, Ernst and Young, Exxon Mobil, Noble Energy, G4S Group, Wargaming, Remedica and others, attended the Event.

During the presence of Leon Sandler in Cyprus, he also mentored each one of the Cyprus Seeds Teams advising them on strategies for commercializing their research.
