Ayia Napa Marina Supports Creation of SMILE Autism Centre

Ayia Napa Marina Supports Creation of SMILE Autism Centre

Further consolidating its dynamic presence, the Ayia Napa Marina is participating in the effort to support and promote social endeavors in the area, offering the Famagusta Autism Support Association a donation of 4000 euro for the first phase of construction of the Ayia Napa SMILE autism association.

With the project implemented by the Ayia Napa Mayor and the Famagusta Autism Support Association, it aims to create the suitable conditions in which individuals with autism can be educated and develop throughout their lives, setting the foundations for a better future and improved lifestyle.

The innovative project will offer solutions and long-term prospects, with the development of a fully functioning hotel unit for families with autism, with employees within the hotel being young adults with autism. The centre will stand as a model of a social enterprise, with those working in the hotel having to ensure the long-term viability of the business. Drawing on the knowledge and experience of the Cyprus tourism industry, particularly in Ayia Napa, it is hoped that many individuals with autism will be selected to not only run this specialized tourism unit, but also, other tourist accommodation in the area.

Stavros Caramontanis, CEO of the Ayia Napa Marina, said: “Ayia Napa is an ideal location for this project, not just because it’s a tourism centre with valuable know-how in the field, but also, because it’s home to a very dynamic community of families with children and young adults with autism. The Ayia Napa Marina will stand by the Famagusta Autism Support Association and the Ayia Napa Municipality in this innovative, grandiose and valuable project which boasts numerous long-term benefits for individuals with autism."
